IT enabled education and how IT can improve our life in general may be a
good topic to start off on.
There has been a lot of interest in this area, an international conference
on "information and communication technologies for development" has been
started from 2006.
the 2007 edition of the conference is to be held in bangalore and it's
homepage is at http://research.microsoft.com/workshops/ictd2007/
the 2006 edition, which was held at MIT, if i remember correctly, had two
papers on Kerala.. one was about the sustainability of the Akshaya model in
Kerala, and another was about the changes in lifestyle of the fishermen
brought about by their widespread mobile usage.. the second one has some
interesting concliusions, about increased stability of the fish supply chain
due to mobile usage and so on..
i can send these two papers to the group, if that sounds interesting.
