21.04.2007 From Vijayachandran wrt the comments of RVG:
I think KSSP should look for a statement of vision that is realisable and capable of triggering the imagination of our down-trodden people and help them seeking genuinely patriotic alternatives. First step is to state the principal objectives in a language understandable to the common people. But RVG has confused himself and others by resorting to jargons like inclusive, exclusive etc. And all others seem to be silent listeners and refuse to respond to my provocative suggestions. Even my god old friend and look-alike, the great VKS, who had initiated this new topic, is seen surprisingly silent. Does my suggestion for an alternative framework for the debate stand rejected? Did ksspexchange circulate the full text of my intervention? Or has RVG taken a unilateral decision to bat for KSSP all by himself?

at present the school curriculum is designed to meet the middle class aspirations: evrybody trying to become a University graduate or IT Engineer / MBA / MBBS. At the same time the system is loaded against the poor child who doesn't get parental support or expert (read expensive) tuition. So half the children are eliminated before SSLC, and another quarter by Plus 2. Even if the ward of a disadvantaged family manages to get admitted into University Course, the best jobs are reserved for the toppers from premiere institutions, so that once again they get sidelined.
The solution is to establish clearly that the purpose of school education is not to prepare a privileged few for University studies, but to prepare everyone for life. The curriculum should be remodelled along these lines.
Of course it is also important to ensure that everyone who completes school education gets a reasonable employment, with reasonable income. The challenge is to equip all students for this purpose. All socially useful vocations should be taught under the school system. And they should be integrated with the work place, so that the vocational students get hands on training and practical experience, as well as confidence. The liaison between schools and the work place has to be performed by the LSGIs.
The unspoken assumption that the purpose of going to school is to escape manual labour has to be changed. The purpose of education (at least one of the purposes) is to make a person a better worker, more informed and more productive.
Such a system would be inclusive, not exclusive. It will have something to offer to everyone, not only to the top rankers.

Should KSSP enter the market of competitive policies, let it first have a vision that will fire the imagination of our down-trodden people and help them seeking real patriotic alternatives
