Hi all
A small rejoinder to deepa..
I think everybody will agree to the point that we all
think that the practising of medicine is defenitely
scientific as far as fundamentals are concerned. It
indeed is an applied science. With any other applied
science including engineering, there is always an
element of art, imagination, finding different
possibilities and optimising the solution based upon
some performance index as perceived by the
practitioner. Only in that sense it becomes an art.
Moreover, each and every practical problem breaks the
whole scientific barriers/framework in which it has
been studied. What i am talking about is that for the
sake of brevity, scientific methodology must have
approximated certain stuff which might as well be
random in nature. for example if you consider a
particular medicine for a particular ailment, on an
average it must be well proven. even then is certain
few cases, the same medicine might complicate things
for some few persons. The art of doctor is in
successfully identifying/estimating this person!
As regards to who can practice, I feel only those with
a genuine qualification should be allowed to do that.
A scientist in pharmacopoeia or toxicology definitely
knows much better about the subject than a graduate in
any medicine branch but it is better that he/she do
not do the clinical practice. This is my opinion
