I think the practice of medicine is not as "scientific" as medical
science itself, and also, I don't think modern medical science itself is
as "scientific" as one would have wished.

The practice of any branch of science will be scientific so long as
nothing else influences it. Unfortunately that does not seem to be the
case with the practice of medicine.

If I don't have the freedom to choose the kind of treatment I want to
have, which is something closest to me, then what is the meaning of
freedom?

I think the law that makes a suicide attempt a criminal offence is
totally absurd. A person attempts suicide when (s)he is so miserable
that (s)he no longer wants to live. Society normally does nothing to
solve his/her problem. I don't understand why society wants the person
to penalise the person for trying to escape from misery. And in the case
of mercy killing, it is only the possibility of it being misused that
prevents most countries from permitting it.
