as I said earlier, I do not see meat in your reply to my argument.

how many people do u know who do some activity X for pleasure (without
earnings) and do not do any other activity for which they get paid.
there are a few people whom I know, who fall into that category, but they
are either
-> Financially very well-off and have a lot of inherited wealth OR
-> Focussing so much of the former activity that they want to reach a state
where they can earn money from that activity

*If you know some people who do juz do activity X and that doesnt give them
monetary benefits, I would be interested to hear as to how they sustain
themselves. *

A painter who does nothing but painting is probably an art teacher at some
school. A poet may be a teacher in a school/college. Boradly, people who
want to pursue certain activities which give them pleasure usually enter the
academia because that is what gives tham maximum amount of freedom, at the
same time guaranteeing an income too.

Btw, your comment that "That is a view that is based on the perception that
there must be some external motive (usually money) for people to do
anything." was obviously putting words into my mouth. I did not say that. I
said people have to do some activitiy that earns them money, no matter how
many other activities they do.

Thanks
Deepak
