Anil,

that was a good piece of information, perhaps, you should educate us of such
viable business models that exists in free software. i did not mean to say
that u r compelled to earn ur livings out of proprietary software. i juz was
pointing out that sasi's argument that "he expects free software to sustain
because there are passionate programmers who continue doing this for no
monetary gains" isnt a sustainable model for growth of free software.

as praveen said earlier, and as I did suspect even in my first mail in this
thread, i was always sure that there there would be viable business models
for free software, and that we dont pay enough attention to such business
models (and everybody focusses on things like ethics and satisfaction). the
last mail was answering sasi's apprehension that free software doesnt
require a business model to sustain and that it can be sustained by
passionate programmers who write code for charity.

mebbe, we should compile a list of business models enabled by free software,
take a deep look at them, and promote the efficient ones so that people are
aware that free software is not about charity.. i believe that that would be
the more systematic way of promoting free software.
