Dear all,

I do feel the usage "manorama Girls" are quite
awkward. More or equal number of men also read
Manorama and watch soap serials. So let us forget
about the usage.

Marie Marcel Thekkekkara has tried to bite a corner
of the problem and create a "make believe" that it is
reality. Before questioning the bravery of girls in
Kerala, why should she compare it with the "literacy
rate" What is the one to one relationship between
literacy & empowerment? I can confidently talk about
our neighbouring state, TamilNadu. Women in Tamilnadu
are not as literate as Kerala women. But they are bold
enough to tell the person(whether man or woman) who
harass them to keep away or go to hell. (the tamil
word they say is " yeh, Innayya, Thontharavu Pannare<
Naalu Saathu Sathattuma? means why are you troubling
me? should I give you four or five slaps? )
For reacting like this, one need not have education.
Still.... could our so called literacy helps our
women in facing such issues? What does our education
do? One need to evaluate the curriculum .... how
gender sensitive it is. what teachings does it give
to our girls etc... It is high time to do that.

Harassment of this type is not only in Kerala but
everywhere else. It depends how seriously one sees the
matter. And also probe why? why does it happen?
                                      anandi.
