The current IT_at_School installations will remain untouched. IT_at_School is now
working comfortably under debian, and there is no need for redoing the work.
I think it will be better if we could wait till we get a detailed info about
the MoU.

Not a single school I have come across admits to having a GNU/Linux
> installation. (50 and counting).

IT_at_School's migration to free software started off with a live CD (Ubuntu
based) in the academic year 2004-05.
A live CD was chosen to avoid a direct installation, and thereby the issues
arising out of it.
(An installable Debian based Distribution has been in use from 2005-07.)

The aim then, was to migrate completely to free software in a period of
three years.
In 2005-06, GNU/Linux was made compulsory for 8th std, and for ninth the
next year.

Starting with this academic year, no state/aided schools in kerala will be
teaching a syllabus based on proprietary products.

IT_at_School has also introduced a revised textbook this year, with no non-free
elements.

This year, the IT exam for SSLC will also be conducted on GNU/Linux.
It'll be hard for any school to stay back from falling in line from now on.

IT_at_SCHOOL does NOT use debian; they are suing a custom distribution,

Debian based is NOT debian, same way that Ubuntu is not

> debian. FWIW, the IT_at_SCHOOL cd is Ubuntu based, not debian based.

The Ubuntu based live CD is not in use anymore. It was replaced by an
installable debian based distro in 2005.

Waiting for you to disclose the name of the gentleman who is single handedly
supporting the entire array of Govt. servers. Even people from
IT_at_Schoolwill be pleased to meet him and thank him for the selfless
service that he
has been doing, and that too in stealth mode.
I think it will be better if we could spend a moment or two to verify such
claims before endorsing it.
